Well I have now outdone all of you other mothers out there... Thursday T had told me that he had band awards at school. I asked if I needed to be there. He said no.
*Mistake #1....follow up when important information seems to be missing!
Around 4:20 I realized that he hadn't made it home yet thus beginning my panic. I went looking for my cell phone and discovered that it was in the van.
*Mistake #2....as much as I hate it, it is useful to be available 24/7!
Of course there is a message from my friend telling me that T told her he wasn't riding home with her, then ran off. By the time I get this figured out it's nearly 4:30 and A has Achievement Days at the church. I called the school to see if he was there... No answer. Called his classroom... No answer. Called his teacher's cell... No answer.
SO I drive A to the church since she is now freaking out because she is late, then start driving to the school to find my boy. My cell phone rings. A quivering voice tells me that he's home. I could tell he was on the verge of tears. He had tried to call me from school, but all he heard was a beep, beep, beep. I figured out that he doesn't know about that dial 9 thing to get out of the school's phone system. SO he decided to walk home. Fourteen pound back pack...yes, I weighed it just to see... AND a ten pound trombone in hand. Did I mention it's a little over a mile to our house....
FAIL!

Oh! Poor T! What else could you have done though?
I can totally understand him. When I was in Jr. High, my mom was supposed to pick me up because I was taking a turtle home during spring break to take care of. I waited for 40 minutes and she never showed up. I called, nothing. I finally went and put the turtle back and started walking the 2 miles home, on a busy street, crying. I was so mad, when she got home she said that she was running late because she had gone to lunch with a friend and they went by the school and I wasn't there. It wasn't the last time I had to wait for my mom to pick me up either.
